Explain how to get over writer’s block.

I usually get writer’s block if I’m constantly working on something, so if I get writer’s block, I take a break to come back and look at a project with a refreshed perspective.

.

.

Tell us the tricks behind making a hit song.

I don’t really know how to make a hit song, but when I write my music it is coming from the heart with a lot of emotion and I think that’s why people can connect to a song like 24.

.

.

.

Tell us how you get feedback for your demo before working on it.

I usually just show my closest friends what I’m working on and get their opinions.

.

.

.

Explain your recording experience in the studio.

I love the studio! Recording at Studios 301 was an amazing experience because I’d never really recorded any music before that, everyone there was lovely and helped me really turn 24 into what I visioned it would be.

.

.

.

Tell us if you add effects to your vocals to sound better.

Not really, I personally prefer my vocals without many effects on them on my tracks. I like it to sound like what you would hear if I were there in person with you.

.

.

.

Tell us how you interact with other artists.

I love meeting and getting to know other artists. I find it so inspiring how they’ve started where I’m starting right now and have gotten so far.

.

.

.

Tell us if you can collaborate with an artist of a different genre.

I would love to collaborate with another artist, even if he/she were in a different genre. It is always good to experiment with different sounds.

.

.

.

Send a message to your fans.

I love you all and thank you so much for supporting me and my track 24.

.

.

.

Explain the process involved in recording a vocal.

It can be a long process; I had a few full days of recording for 24 but I love the process.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the song.

‘24’ is my first release and I am so proud of it. It’s a very personal song, expressing what I went through, so it’s such a sentimental song to me.

My friend Tim made the beat and as soon as I heard it, I wrote the hook and then worked on it every night.

It took a while to record and finish it but when it was released, I got such a positive response to it. I’m happy 24 was my first release.

From experience to art, Newcastle Neo-Soul vocalist Zi debuts her cathartic breakout single, 24, set to be released on Tuesday the 24th of March.

Produced by Tim Botor and mixed at the legendary 301, Zi enters the scene with a polished and professional sound. The moody production draws elements from R&B, trap, and electronica – with a key-driven melody, swelling, layered vocals and triplets.

Taking influence from Rhianna, Summer Walker, Jorja Smith, and Ella Mai, Zi dances the line between R&B, Hip Hop, and Soul. Expect deep transportive lyrics, swaying emotions, and a vocal range to supplement the tumultuous themes presented.

“24 is a special song to me because it’s my first release but also because it’s a song of raw emotion. The lyrics reflect an unhealthy relationship and the different problems it faced.”

24 is the result of cathartic writing, with the track rising and falling, mirroring the turbulence of an on-again-off-again relationship.

Zi presents moments of pure confidence, sadness, and vulnerability both lyrically and sonically throughout the track.

Following the release of 24, Zi was going to be playing her first show with original music on the 28th of March at The Dungeon (AA) in Adamstown, however, it has been canceled. 2020 is shaping up to be a big year for the young Novocastrian, seeing Zi link up with local legend Jayteehazard for her sophomore release.
