They are cinematic landscapes, claustrophobic dark rooms, and short films with bursts of violence, regret, and loss.

Since forming in late 2018 Shattercones have provided soundscapes for several projects, including an immersive installation in Berlin celebrating feminist icon Elizabeth Barrett Browning; they also designed the soundscapes that accompanied the Twin Peaks UK Festival in October 2019.

Live highlights include playing the O2 Kentish Town Forum in November 2018, 1865 Southampton November 2019, and SWX Bristol October 2019.

Name the artists that have influenced you so far.

Just a few personal favourites would be Tindersticks, Ennio Morricone, Wire, Spiritualized and Scott Walker.

Elaborate on this song.

This song is Oppenheimer. A dirge. Like a lone tank rolling across a scorched battlefield, creating a dust cloud as it crawls ever closer to civilization.

Facebook and Instagram really.

Explain how you are getting your songs to stores and getting it to fans.

Currently, the power of the posted parcel is the only way we’ve been getting our physical product into the hands of willing converts.

Otherwise, a tip-top, high-quality version can be downloaded from our lovely Bandcamp page.

Tell us how you prepare yourself for a live performance or show.

We offload the tools of our trade at the venue, find the nearest watering hole, lubricate ourselves and then stuff copious amounts of pizza into our bellies….and then try to remember the way back to the venue.

.

Tell us your opinion on frequent releasing of singles or just an album in a while.

Frequent Singles/EPs are handy to keep the creative momentum going, and the promotional wheels turning. They’re quicker to record, and cheaper in the long run…

.

.

.

Tell us the themes of most of your songs.

The disintegration of all life as we know it, or the acceptance of a personal apocalypse. Usual stuff.

.

.

.

Tell us how boring or exciting the music career can be.

5 years of playing, and 20 years of waiting around aptly sum up the experience of a career in music.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

We threw names in a top hat, picked one out, threw it back in, picked another, threw that back in, then read about geological phenomena found underneath meteorite impact zones… or nuclear blasts.

State the title of the song and the meaning.

O p p e n h e i m e r

Splitting the atom. Was it a good idea? Well, this man wasn’t all that sure in the end. The song is about a metaphorical nuclear holocaust, and I’m sure in these days of isolation, many of us wake with the feeling of impending doom before we flick the kettle on.
