Discuss your music process and recording in full detail.

It was a very organic process. I was grieving the loss of my father and putting all the energy into my music, which I recorded on a laptop with Shaun O’Brien – an amazing upcoming producer.

We recorded everything as soon as they’d been written so it was very fresh.

I write songs to navigate the internal emotions I experience through hard times.

.

.

.

Discuss how you get involved in music.

I was born into it. My whole family is creative. My dad was a jazz musician of 40+ years and there were always instruments around the house to experiment with. I’ve always felt myself when creating and performing.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the secret to success.

I do not think there is any secret… It is mainly just persistence and continuing to grow and expand through your dreams.

Success to me is accepting the process, the cycles things go in, and accepting one’s self.

.

.

.

Discuss how you distribute your music.

Through an online platform called Ditto.

.

.

.

Describe your vocal ability.

It’s high pitched. I can sing very well.

.

.

.

Tell us how you develop the instrumentation for this song.

It starts with a Ukulele, then harmonies and then beats (programmed drums).

.

.

.

Go into detail on how you create your songs.

The songs come to me, as I am being present. Sometimes, fully formed, sometimes in dreams, other times just words that are explanations of experiences. It’s an ongoing process of curiosity and discovery through music.

.

.

.

Discuss your musical ability.

I can play the violin, ukulele and a bit of piano…

.

.

.

Elaborate on the lyrics of the song.

They are much wiser than how I talk in real life.

.

.

.

Discuss the structure of the song.

It’s a basic pop song… verse, chorus, verse… bridge chorus. I like simplicity.

.

.

.

Discuss how you make things work.

I use a loop pedal and get creative with layering harmonies and ukuleles.

.

.

.

Tell us how you prepare for a show or recording session.

When I am nervous, I drink tea, try and breathe and make sure my vocals are warmed up with scales. I visualize how I’d like the show/session to go and it usually works out well.

.

.

.

Tell us how you coordinate other musicians or how you relate with your producer in bringing the best out of your song.

I do my research, see if I click with the person, then go in with a clear vision and loads of references.

.

.

.

Tell us how you ensure your vocal is in harmony with the instrumentation.

I train my ear.

.

.

.

Tell us how you build your vocal melody.

I do scales, lots of scales.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the EP.

“I created this EP as I was learning how to understand the unfolding of a new chapter in my life, whilst using my Ukuleles as a tool. I want my fans to feel as if they’ve been on the journey with me as we unpack themes of endurance, growth, love, fresh starts and expression”

.

.

.

Elaborate on your artist’s name and the title of the album.

The title refers to being in the tunnel and seeing the light… depression, anxiety… all those yucky emotions that you must go through to grow. There is always a lesson to learn and the shape of light was that for me.

My artist’s name is an abbreviation of my real name which is very long. 🙂
